Special Needs Kitten -- Friday December 30th, 2011

We have a very special little kitten currently up for adoption. Chesnut is a handsome 16 week old kitten with a neurological condition called Cerebellar Hypoplasia.

This just causes him to walk a little wobbly. He was born with this and will have it through out his life. This does not cause him pain or any discomfort. When he nervous/scared he is a bit more wobbly. However, he can keep with up with our dogs and other kitties! Once he gets running there is no stopping him! He is very sweet and loving. He loves to help clean the litter box!!! He is a sweet special little boy and we hope he will find his home soon. Please view his webpage for more information.

(His sister Sugar Cookie is also available for adoption!!!!)

RIP Tracie 1st Rescue -- Tuesday November 22nd, 2011

R I P- TRACIE NOVEMBER 22, 2011 Tracie was one our first rescues back on October 21, 2006. She came to us with 4 other cats and 1 dog. I kept King (RIP 04-10-2010),and Macie the 3 black cats due to no adoptions for them and due to our bond. King passed away back in April of 2010. He became very ill and with in a week passed on, we do not know what exactly was wrong but strongly believe he had cancer. Macie and Tracie have had on-going serious medical issues for the last 1.5 years. At least once a month we were at the vets office with one or the other. Back in September of this year we sought out a specialist at the Vet Specialty Center in Newark. Tracie had some work- up done and was put on some medications which seem to be helping. However all of a sudden 1 week before Thanksgiving she became very lethargic and not eating so well. Wednesday before Thanksgiving we took her back to the VSCDE and had some blood work up. The blood work came back the next day and her liver values were sky high. We then proceeded to do an ultra sound on Friday to get some more information. The results of her liver came back abnormal as well. She was put on a bunch of medications. However, she would not eat at all and wasn't doing well at all. I tried to keep her going with syringe feeding every few hours, sub q fluids and continued with the meds. However we did not want her to suffer. We made the very tough heart wrenching decision to have her put to sleep. Which we did on November 22, 2011. We did have necropsy done and some biopsy’s to see what was going on. Well, the results came back and she had liver cancer which was not treatable. The type of cancer she had was very fast and aggressive. These cats are my whole life. I would do anything for them. This destroys me. I have a whole in my heart and just wish that Tracie and King could have lived a full 15+ years with me. I love them so much and wish they could still be here. These 3 black cats are the reason why I started rescuing cats. They came from living a life of hell and were so sick and malnourished yet had the most wonderful and sweet personalities. They were so grateful to be saved. There are no other cats in the world like them. The last black cat Macie has issues of her own and we have been at the vets at least once a week for the last 2 months with her. We can't figure out what exactly is going on with her... But she seems to be ok right now... RIP King 04-10-10 and Tracie 11-22-11 *You are my angels and will never be forgotten* **Thank you SO much to the wonderful doctors and staff at Cherry Hill Dog and Cat Hospital as well as Dr. Diroff and the staff at VSDCE for taking such excellent care of my babies*

RIP KING- 1ST RESCUE -- Monday April 12th, 2010

As you saw the picture of the front page, that is the stunning kitty named King. King is a 6.5 year old male kitty that was rescued in October 2006 by FPTR. They also rescued a few others as well. Jamie fell in love and kept King and his 2 sisters. King is an absolutely AMAZING cat. He is not a cat but a human being inside a kitty’s body. Most of you who shop in Concord may remember him. King comes along on adoption events and Jamie also takes him out shopping as well. King has fell very ill. King started was not himself one day so he was taken to the vet. We have done many blood tests all of which came back normal. King has fluid in his chest and belly and it has just gotten worse and today King could barely breath. We have done over $1,000 worth of vet care and still there is no diagnosis yet. Today, the vet will remove the fluid from his chest and do exploratory surgery. This is very high risk for King and he may not pull through. King’s sister Macie fell seriously ill 2 months ago and cost over $1,200 to find out what was wrong with her, she luckily pulled through. King sadly passed away over the weekend. He had to be euthanized Saturday evening seeing as he could breath what so ever. Most of you may of head of Four Paws and Tail Rescue and may know/ have seen King at our adoption events at Concord Pet or just around the store shopping for things. King was the founders cat, he followed her where ever she went and was not a "cat" but a human in a cats body. King loved everything and everyone. King's loss is very surprising and upsetting, with in a week he went from being very tired and sleepy to not being able to breath despite every effort Jamie made to save him, he was just to sick. The vets are unsure what caused King's illness, he could of had heart disease or cancer or maybe both. Needless to say King's illness has had quite the financial impact. We have spent over $1,000 on King and as you read above Macie his sister fell seriously ill as well and the vet bills were very high as well. It is kitten season and we have a dozen cats and kittens to care for. Donations are greatly appreciated. Any amount will help. There is a donation jar on the front counter at Concord Pet in Suburban Plaza (312 Suburban Drive, Newark DE 19711). We also have a pay pal button on our website as well if you'd like to donate or we can send you an address to send the donation too. King is the greatest cat to ever live and there will never ever be another cat like him in the world. I miss King so much and am so lost with out him. I just want to hold him again. I will never forgot you King, I love you SOOOO Much. Rescued on 10/14/2006- 04/10/2010 Love you forever and always.

KITTEN SEASON- HERE -- Friday February 26th, 2010

Hello there!! Well, as you can see on our front page we've already taken in one pregnant cat this year! Well, she is no longer pregnant! Kitten season has already started, though not yet in full swing yet...! Bella came to us with her 6 month old kitten, poor Bella is only about a year old and has already had 2 litters that we know of- she has probably had more as she is a very good mom and not nervous at all. Bunny, her 6 month old daughter was already in heat when she went into get spayed happily though she is now spayed and already has been adopted. We have listed a few other kittens on our website. We have 3 stunning 4 month old shy kittens who will need some more time in our care but would like to line up homes for them, they are our G kittens and have just been listed. On that note, kitten season will be here soon! In about 2 months or so. This is the time of year when it is so important to have animals spayed and neutered! Rescues and shelters are so overwhelmed this time of year. Donations and fostering is very important and helps us save more, as well as of course adoptions help as well and are very much needed- especially for rescues like us who have limted space. Adopting makes room for more in need!! Rescue cats make purrfect pets!

PLEASE CONSIDER ONE OR TWO!:) THERE ARE DISCOUNTS FOR 2- 3RD ONE IS FREE ;)!

**Update on Tilly girl! ** 02/25/08We want to THANK all OF YOU that have donated towards Tilly's vet costs- this has hepled a lot. After only 2 weeks after surgery she is back to herself- acting like nothing happened! She will be ready for her home this weekend, Saturday the 28th after she gets spayed tomorrow the 26th. The broken femur was due to malnutrion as a kitten, we rescued Tilly, Tiggy and 8 other cats just from one home. They weren't fed like they should have been and not to well taken care of. This was not something that was genetic, this is simply because she wasn't well taken care of. Thank god we got to her when we did, otherwise she would be suffering in pain and sooner or later passing away. Thank you again to everyone that has helped.

Please consider Tilly and Tiggie!

GOOD Things Are Happening -- Saturday September 13th, 2008

It is now September. It is the 2nd "wind" of kitten season. We are still getting dozens of calls a day for stray kittens and kitty cats. It is like a never ending cycle really! This has been one of the worst seasons to date. Thursday we took cats to be fixed at a shelter - well we came back with 9 Cats. Yup, not just our 3 but 5 kittens and a mom cat that were dumped in a carrier in the parking lot of the shelter. The shelter is WAY over crowded and turned to us for help. How can you say NO? The Mom is only 8-9 months old and the kittens are 4 months old. The Mom got pregnant at a WAY to young age- poor girl. But FF spayed and neutered everyone, tested and got them caught up on shots! They are all sweet babies who could do such a thing!? We have just about double our intake number from last year to this year. It has really been a rough season (finacially and space wise). Thinking about adopting? Check out our "animals list"- many kitties need a home(the 5 kittens and Mom will be posted later on today:)):)!!!

In other news...

We are coming up on our 2 year Anniversary, on October 14, 2008. We keep track of our adoptions (for the most part)- we have adopted out over 175 ANIMALS. In less then 2 years and for such a small group this is wondeful! We are so happy to have helped as many as we have.It is SO hard to believe it has already been 2 years, time has flown by and we miss so many of the wonderful animals that have come through our home and made their own spot in my heart. We (and our rescued animals)have been so lucky to find such wonderful familes to adopt our wonderful babies. We thank each and every one of you that has adopted from us or contributed to our cause. We can't do it with out you!!

More News..

We are still very very small-2 women and one foster home. We are starting a mobile cat grooming business. This business is to help raise the $2,000 to become a 501c3- non-profit organization. We plan on going into peoples homes, trimming cat's nails, cleaning ears, gluing nail caps on, brushing teeth, dry bating and furimating and even bathing. We hope to call it Four Paws In- Home Cat Grooming. We have placed calls and are starting on the paperwork. We hope to have it up and running by winter time. For our previous adopters we will discount our serives!:) We are unsure of prices now and our working on some numbers. If you have any suggestions or can helps us please feel free to let us know. Call 410 392 4898 or shoot us an e-mail fourpawsandtailrescue@yahoo.com.

Last but not least...

On October 11, 2008 Concord Pet in Surburban Plaza (Newark DE) will hold their annual Harvest Festival (please go to their website for more info www.concordpet.com). We are hoping to join them and have an adoption event and promote our new business. We will post more info later on.

We thank everyone who has contributed to our cause in anyway and to all who have adopted from us before (we have had many adopters come back and adopt a 2nd and even 3rd time!). We can't do this without you! Rescues/Shelters rely on adoptions- you can't take in more without adopting the ones you have! We have been very lucky. At times it has been very rough, emotionally, financially and space wise. We always keep one thing in mind- We are helping to save these animals who will DIE without us. How can you say NO to a poor pathetic face staring at you praying you will help them? That is something we will never understand.

Rusty's Surgery -- Tuesday July 1st, 2008

Well Rusty recieved his couple hundred dollars worth or surgery today! We were all very nervous for our little guy. However, he did very very well. Rusty is now home and resting and relaxing for now. He has a HUGE incision and a lot of stiches. He has to wear a cone while unsupervised, and looks so pathetic! They have sent out the tumor to be tested and we will know the results in a few days. PLEASE keep your fingers crossed and keep Rusty in your prayers. This is the most wonderful cat anyone can EVER meet and we are so happy to have the pleasure of having this guy in our rescue. We still do wish to find this guy a home after a couple weeks- depending on the outcome. Anyone who meets this beautiful guy will fall in love with him. We would still appreciate any amount of donations. We also would like to say a HUGE thanks to our vets office. Cherry Hill Dog and Cat Hospital They have helped us through some EXTREMELY hard times lately and have been so sympathetic and kind to us. Thanks again.
